Maneuvering takes time! You've got to get up on deck, take out the sails, hoist them, tuck in, ease off, but also "matosser" and then take up the appropriate adjustments to reach the best speed... it's no mean feat!
Fortunately, with Virtual Regatta, it's much simpler: simply change course or select a sail from the game's dashboard without putting on a foulies coat!
But, as in the real world, a maneuver also impacts your boat's speed: in the game, your boat is also slowed down after each change of sail or tack (tack or gybe). Once it is "restarted", it returns to its normal speed. This slowdown takes place after the maneuver.
Depending on the type of maneuver, and the strength of the wind, this maneuvering time can therefore be different: a single-handed gybe maneuver on an IMOCA in strong winds is a more delicate and time-consuming maneuver than a crewed tack in medium winds aboard a Super Maxi 100', for example.
This slowdown can be reduced by fitting your boat with Pro Winches. During maneuvering time, your boat moves at 50% of its normal speed and is slowed down by only 30% with Pro Winches.
The table below lists the basic times for each maneuver, according to boat type and wind strength. These basic times then evolve according to wind strength between these basic times (10 to and 30 knots), and beyond.
