The use of integrated routing

Virtual Regatta Offshore offers a routing feature available to everyone!

What is integrated routing?

It’s a decision-making assistance tool that will suggest the best heading for your boat. It’ll allow you to program a course with a single click, while you prepare for the next few hours of racing.

How does it work?

It’s very simple!

To enable the integrated router feature, just click the button located above the compass you use to control your boat:

The integrated router will then display a target on your map. You can move it to the desired destination point for your boat (within the 2000 nautical mile around your boat limit).

Once deployed, it’ll calculate the “ideal” heading and suggest waypoints to get to your destination.

Once the calculation is finished, if you validate the heading, the routing will replace all the waypoints with the ones which are being suggested to you.

You can later edit them in the routing menu.

Working requirement

The number of waypoints that activate during a routing follows the usual rules :

• Without Full Pack: 2 waypoints
• With Full Pack: 9 waypoints
• VIP Player: 15 waypoints

If your account isn’t equipped with a Full Pack or a VIP subscription, clicking a waypoint on your heading will open a pop-up towards the corresponding offer. (Full pack for the buttons 3 to 9, VIP from 10 to 15).

If the heading with is suggested by the integrated router contains more waypoints than available for your account, it’ll only factor the amount available to you and then open this pop-up :

• Yes: Applies the heading  (the waypoints can be modified in the routing menu)
• No: Opens the VIP subscription pop-up

Integrated router failure

The integrated router isn’t infallible. In some cases, the router may be unable to calculate an ideal heading.

• The destination point is too close to your boat to calculate two waypoints.

• The last suggested waypoint is too close or on land, the routing can’t calculate optimal coordinates:

• There are no more waypoints after the first isochrone :

Isochrones are white curves that represent the trajectory and coordinates of your boat over time. The first six isochrones increment by an hour at a time so the first corresponds to the possible position of your boat after an hour, the second two hours, and so forth.

There are currently 15 isochrones at most for a heading. Between the 7^th and 15^th the time increment is 3h instead of 1.

Integrated routing is a decision-making tool.

It’ll make a recommendation according to the calculation at the time of activation. You will still need to check the heading and eventually adjust it to factor dangerous areas (close to land, etc…) or tailor it to your goals.  

VIP Bonus!

If your account benefits from the perks in the VIP subscription, it’s possible to set the same heading as one of your opponents!

The method is the same, you just need to activate the routing from your chosen opponent’s page on an ongoing race. Once the calculation is done, the integrated routing will display the date and time of your opponent’s arrival at the designated destination.
