How to Interpret the Hatched Areas on the Map?
On certain races, you will encounter hatched polygons of different colors on the navigation map.
These colored areas signal sectors where navigation is advised against. (A "Forbidden Zone" pictogram is displayed when you zoom in on an area.
When you enter these zones, expect a significant slowdown of your boat. Typically, the speed is reduced by about 70%, but this rate can vary from one area to another. It is important to note that the boat is never completely stopped, allowing for maneuvering to exit.
Colors of Zones: Red is the most common color, but other colors can be used. The color does not affect the rate of slowdown.
Types of Zones:
ZEA (Arctic/Antarctic Exclusion Zone): These zones are defined for safety reasons, to avoid collisions with obstacles like growlers or icebergs. They are usually marked in red.
TSS (Traffic Separation Scheme): Established to reduce the risk of collision in busy maritime areas, these zones are also marked in red.
ZPC (Cetacean Protection Zones): Created for the protection of certain cetacean species, these zones are usually distinguished by a different color.
Buffer Zone: Around the ZEAs, a buffer zone may be visible, indicating that you are dangerously approaching the forbidden zone. It is advisable to navigate with caution and maintain a safe distance. No particular slowdown is applied in the part of the buffer zone that is outside the restriction area.
Modifications of Zone Boundaries
The restriction zones can be updated at any time, even during a race. Stay alert to game notifications about changes in the positions of zones!
